ROAD ACCESS
Matzikama lays on the N7, Cape Namibia Route, approx. 300km (3 Hours) North of Cape Town and 1200km (11 Hours) from Windhoek. It can also be reached from the North (Gauteng, Mpumalanga, etc) along the N14/R27 via Upington, N12/R27 via Kimberley and the N1/R63 via Bloemfontein and Victoria West.

ACCOMMODATION
Accredited Matzikama Tourism Members offer a wide variety of places to stay from self-catering, caravaning to guest houses and hotels. ATTRACTIONS
Matzikama, home to the northernmost vineyards of the Western Cape, offers the wine lover a selection of cellars to visit for wine tasting and/or purchasing. Have a look at the Olifantsriver Vodacom Wine Route.

Hiking trails in and around Matzikama give the hiker the opportunity to absorb the rugged beauty, endless vistas and flora & fauna of the area.

Rock art, the ancient pictorial history of the San and Khoi people, abound in the area, with some of the finest to be seen in the Matzikama mountains.

Ratelgat, with sacred area and grave of Paramount Chief AAS le Fleur of the Griqua, also provides the facility to experience the traditional lifestyle of the Grique.

4 x 4 Trails form part of the activities offered to the outdoor, adventurous visitor.
Star gazers paradise! The clear summer night skies, minimal ambient town lighting and nearly zero air polution make for an ideal setting to explore the southern night skies.

Matzikama Tourism recommends that you stay at least a couple of days in the region to truly experience the variety of its attractions and diversity of its people.

Climate
Winter occurs during the months of May - August and is generally cool with an average temperature of 20°C.
Summers on the other hand are warm and dry, with a relatively comfortable average temperature of 29°C.

Time
Throughout the year, standard time in South Africa is two hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time, one hour ahead of central European Winter Time and seven hours in advance of Eastern Standard Mean Time.

Crayfishing Permits
Permits for crayfishing are available at all post offices. Please note that you need to take your identity document. It is only legal to catch crayfish in season time i.e. November - April each year.

Money
Most banks in the Matzikama are open 08h30 - 15h30 during the week, and from 08h00 - 11h00 on Saturdays. Automated teller machines (ATM's) are found at various points in different towns. The unit of currency is 'R', the Rand. There are 100 cents to one Rand.
